Heart Crews

out of rows and into circles

At Pure Heart, we believe spiritual growth happens best when we are connected to God’s Word and other believers. Heart Crews are the perfect place for that to happen!  Crews meet weekly in three semesters every year.

What Are  Heart Crews

Heart Crews are small gatherings of people, who meet weekly to study God’s Word, share life and support each other. Our Crews use a curriculum based on the weekend message, or a book study.

We invite everyone to join a Heart Crew or be invlolved in another similiar small group experience. While most crews are sermon-based, some are special interest crews focusing on topics such as addiction, marriage recovery and Christian basics for new believers.

Crews meet in three semesters from late August through mid-May, taking a break during the summer months.

Getting out of rows and into circles is an essential way to grow closer to God and other followers of Jesus.

When can I sign up for a Heart Crew?

Our Heart Crews meet for 8-12 week semesters in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Before each Heart Crew semester begins there are three ways to sign up for a group – online, at our weekend services or by calling the church office. During the weekend services, Heart Crew team members and staff are available at the sign-up tables to help you choose a group and answer
any questions.

We also offer Intro to Heart Crews which run for 2 weeks and begin in July, October and March. This group is designed for people new to Heart Crews who would like to find out how they work and what they are all about.

*Most Support Crews are open for enrollment year-round.

How do I choose a crew?

Our Heart Crews are arranged by Station-in-Life (common life stage). These headings are meant to assist you in finding a group of people in a similar life stage. Keep in mind, you may fit into more than one Station-in-Life, so take a look at all the groups that may apply to you. To learn more about each Station-in-Life check out our page on choosing a group. Some crews are listed as Mixed Adult Crews – this means any age or gender would fit well.

When and where do they meet?

The majority of Heart Crews meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the Phoenix valley and beyond. Most evening groups meet 6:30 – 8:00 pm. The daytime crews meeting times vary.

We have three different meeting types for crews:
• Online Only: These crews will meet exclusively online.
• In-Person: These crews will meet in person.
• Hybrid: These crews will meet in a combination of both in-person and online. This could look like alternating between online and in-person, or it could be some people meeting in person and others joining them via video.

Each Heart Crew session lasts 8 to 12 weeks. We have Fall, Winter & Spring sessions. At the end of each session, you will have the choice of staying in the same crew, trying a new crew or even taking a break. Most crews stay together throughout the entire year. Heart Crews do not meet mid-May through mid-August.

*Most Life Skills & Support Crews are open for enrollment year-round.

What is the required commitment?

Joining a Heart Crew requires an 8-12 week commitment to attend weekly meetngs and do the homework ahead of time. This commitment is the key to a strong Heart Crew. If you sign up for a Crew and decide it’s not a good fit for you, let us know in the first three weeks and we’d love to help you find another one!

What will we study?

Most of the studies are based on the previous weekend’s message. These “sermon-based” Heart Crews are built on what we call a “Lecture-Lab” model.

Imagine the weekend message as a lecture on Christian living, and the Heart Crew as a lab where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the weekend’s message works in real life. Each week there will be a series of Bible passages and questions on the sermon notes to study before the meeting. It will usually take 20 to 40 minutes per week to complete the homework.

What about childcare?

Heart Crews are for adults. (Exceptions can be made for nursing newborns, up to six months.) We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap childcare with another family whose Heart Crew meets on a different evening.

Childcare is available during Heart Crews on some campuses on specific nights of the week.
