Daniel Steffen, Senior Pastor

Dan has had the privilege of serving in ministry since 1988 and was ordained in 1995. He joined the staff of Pure Heart in 2000. Dan has a Masters of Theology degree from Gateway Bible College. Before accepting his current position as Senior Pastor in June of 2005 Dan was the Associate Teaching Pastor.

Dan and his wife, Nicole, were married in August of 1998. Dan and Nicole have three children, Joshua, Luke and Abigail.

Bryan grew up in Colorado in a wonderfully loving family of six. He began playing music when he was eight years old and knew that music would be a big part of his life. He studied Engineering at the University of Colorado. He was employed for ten years by Rockwell International, working in the field of metallurgy and as a technical writer assigned to the U.S. Department of Energy. His passion for music continued as he was playing in a country-rock band in night clubs throughout Colorado. In 1993 Bryan answered the call to full time ministry and moved to Phoenix to become the Worship Pastor at Pure Heart.

Bryan met his wife Megan at his brother’s wedding and it was love at “second sight”. They have three wonderful children; Zachary, Hannah and Lacey.

Mark Hendrix, Executive Pastor

Mark entered full-time ministry in 2000 after working over 15 years in the business world, as well as, owning his own business. He has a B.A. in Business Leadership and most recently served as a Project Manager and Department head for a local Telecommunications and Internet company. Prior to joining the staff at Pure Heart, Mark served in various leadership positions and on the board of a local church.

Mark and his wife Kellene were married in March of 1991 and have two children Victoria and Stephen.

Nathan began in ministry in 1994. Nathan studied at Southwestern Assemblies of God Univ., where he received his B.S. in Church Ministries. He currently is pursuing a Masters of Divinity to sharpen his teaching gifts. Nathan’s ministry background includes leading youth ministries, young adult ministries and speaking around the country.

Nathan absolutely loves spending time with his wife Erin and their two boys; Ethan and Landon.

Jeff Shellenberger, Student Ministry Pastor

Jeff has been in youth ministry since meeting Christ in 1992. He trained for ministry with Masters Commission U.S.A. in Phoenix AZ. He attended M.C.U.S.A for 5 years (2 as a student and three as discipleship staff). Jeff's heart is to see young people realize their purpose and calling in Christ so they become all God has created them to be. Jeff has two incredible children Kaeylee and Creed.

Rachel was born and raised in Phoenix and has been attending Pure Heart since 2002. She began serving as an usher in 2003 before accepting a part time position as Auditorium Coordinator in June 2004. Rachel accepted her current position as Director of Connecting in March 2005. Before entering full time ministry she was a property accountant for 10 years with CB Richard Ellis.

Rachel has been married to David since January 1993. David and Rachel have been blessed with three children, Zachary, Breionna and Madison.

Benjamin Petersen, Assistant Pastor of Worship & Arts

Ben moved from Chicago to Phoenix and began working in the Computer Technology and Security field.  In 2002 He began to attend Pure Heart where he discovered that his life-long love of music was in fact a heart of Worship that God began to uncover. Ben began playing guitar for Celebrate Recovery eventually moving into his first worship leading position.  He then began to serve in the main services playing the guitar, drums, and eventually leading worship.  In 2006 he was offered the position of, director of youth worship, where he has had the honor serving in Pure Heart’s Student Ministries, until moving in to full time ministry in 2008. 

He and his beautiful beloved wife Julie married in 2003 and hope to start a family soon.

Bill Stewart, Grow Pastor - Groups

Pastor Bill and his wife Pam moved to Glendale in 2005 from southern California where he served in leadership and pastoral roles with various churches in the North County of San Diego. Pastor Bill has over 38 years of experience in caring for God's people via teaching and counseling. Bill has owned and operated his own company and also served as a business consultant to small businesses. Bill also has a ministry to the marketplace where he provides leadership training and chaplain services to businesses. Bill and Pam have been married since 1966 and have two children and seven grandchildren.

Brenda joined Pure Heart Christian Fellowship in 2001. She began volunteering at the info booth and women’s ministry, facilitating support groups. Prior to coming to Pure Heart Christian Fellowship Brenda worked a s a crisis therapist and group therapist at a local psychiatric hospital. Brenda’s previous background includes healing prayer and prayer counseling and numerous classes in prayer. Brenda is a licensed clinical social worker and holds bachelors and master degrees in social work from Arizona State University.

Brenda has been married to Bob since 1982 and has two children, Rebecca and Thomas.

Todd has been attending Pure Heart Christian Fellowship since 1993. He has served in many areas of ministry including Greeters, Just Because and Building Maintenance. Todd’s transition from being a business owner to full-time pastoral staff began in 1998 when he accepted the position of part-time Assistant Pastor of the Singles’ Ministry. While serving in this ministry with his wife, Donna, Todd also completed Pastor School here at Pure Heart. In 2001, he accepted his current full-time position as Pastor of Growing. Todd’s love of studying the Bible, prayer and missions uniquely equips him for ministry.

Todd and his wife, Donna, have been married since October 1994. They are the proud parents of five children, Serena, Elias, Caleb, Gabriella and Janelle.

Dennis Hislop, Go Pastor - Missions

Dennis Hislop, Pastor of Missions: Dennis first heard his call to the mission field in 1998 on an outreach with Spectrum Ministries in the barrios of Tijuana, Mexico. Prior to coming to Pure Heart in March of 2002, he was involved in building the missions ministry at another local church in Phoenix . In October of 2003, Dennis accepted the position of Director of Missions at Pure Heart and in January of 2006, became the Pastor of Missions. He is currently enrolled in Desert Rose Bible College pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry. His heart for the mission field has led him to build a ministry that serves the needy and the poor in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Navajo Reservation, Mexico, Central and South America, Asia and Africa.

Dennis and his wife Mary were married in August 1978, and have three children, Caitlin, Jessica and Ryan.

Patsy Davis, Director of Women's Ministry

Patsy started attending Pure Heart in 1990. She has served as a leader in various ministries as well as serving full time on staff as the Church Secretary for 5+ years.

Patsy and her husband Al have been married since 1982. They have three children, Benny, Vanessa and Martha, a daughter-in-law Sandy, a son-in-law Ben and two grandsons, Devon and Lane.

Her prayerful desire is for women to see themselves as Christ sees them.

Steve Cope, Director of Single's Ministry

Steve Cope is our Director of Singles Ministry. He started coming to Pure Heart in November 2002 at the invitation of a friend, and has been involved with various ministries since that time including: Ushering and Auditorium Coordinator. Steve’s heart for singles has grown by his involvement and passion for such causes as Habitat for Humanity, Mexico Missions and Just Because Outreaches. He desire to see the singles at Pure Heart become connected, to grow spiritually, and in their relationship with other singles.

Melissa Clayton, Administrative Assistant

Melissa has been attending Pure Heart since 2001. She has served in various ministries including Children's Ministry, Women's Ministry and the office. Before accepting her current position of Administrative Assistant in November 2004, she worked in the telecommunications industry.

Melissa and her husband, Jeff, have been married since April of 2001. They are blessed with two married daughters, Jennifer and Katie, and a beautiful granddaughter, Briana.

Sandy Gades, Administrative Assistant

Sandy moved to Arizona in 1997 and shortly thereafter started attending Pure Heart. She began volunteering in the nursery and singles ministry. After 20 years of manicuring and being a salon owner she left the business world to become an administrative assistant at Pure Heart. Sandy has been a full time staff member since 2002.

Sandy met Ev at Pure Heart and they were married in March of 2004. They have 2 children, Briana and Will.

Penny Aswegan, Receptionist

Penny and her family began attending Pure Heart in 1994 immediately after moving from their hometown in Central California.  During her years here at Pure Heart she has had the privilege of serving in various ministries ranging from greeting to women’s Bible studies and currently in Children’s Ministry at Guest Services.  She accepted her position here at Pure Heart in August 2008.

Penny and Donnie were married in June of 1993.  They have three children, Jenna, Amanda, and Aaron.
