Growing in Devotion

It’s important that we spend time each day in God’s Word. Below you will find this week’s daily devotions.

August 8th – Exodus 20:16
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” (NKJV) For further study, Exodus 20

Prayer Focus: Lord, forgive me for any time I may have spoken falsely against my neighbor or lied in any way. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

August 9th- Romans 13:9-10
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (NKJV) For further study, Romans 13

Prayer Focus: God, in this country our courts are full of people that bear false witness against their neighbors. Lord, expose their lies and bring the truth, restore our courts once again to righteousness. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

August 10th – 1 John 2:3-4
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (NKJV) For further study, 1 John 2

Prayer Focus: Father, I want to know You but sometimes I don’t keep Your commandments. Help me to keep them, and please put Your truth in my heart always. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

August 11th – Proverbs 30:5-6
5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. 6 Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. (NKJV) For further study, Proverbs 30

Prayer Focus: God, help me to never add to Your word, even if I mean well and please forgive me for any time that I have added to it in the past. In Jesus’ name I ask this. Amen.

August 12th – Proverbs 14:5
5 A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies. (NKJV) For further study, Proverbs 14

Prayer Focus: Lord, cause me to always be a faithful witness, even if it costs me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

August 13th – Revelation 21:8
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (NKJV) For further study, Revelation 21

Prayer Focus: Father, I see that liars have no part in Your kingdom but have a place in the “Lake that burns with fire”. Keep me from being a liar. In Jesus’ name I ask this. Amen.

August 14th – Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. (NKJV) For further study, Proverbs 6

Prayer Focus: Heavenly Father, I never want You to hate me or what I do. Please cleanse my tongue from all lies. I ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
