Weekly Devotionals July 18th–24th
Growing in Devotion
It’s important that we spend time each day in God’s Word. Below you will find this week’s daily devotions.
July 18th – Exodus 20:13
13 You shall not commit murder. (AMP) For further study, Exodus 20
Prayer Focus: God, please change the way we think of murder. Show us everything that you see as murder; help us change and not allow murder in this country. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
July 19th – Matthew 5:21-22
21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. (NKJV) For further study, Matthew 5
Prayer Focus: Heavenly Father, help us not to have anger without cause, because You see it as murder. Fill us instead with Your love and compassion, change our hearts. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
July 20th – Matthew 19:18-19
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19′Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (NKJV) For further study, Matthew 19
Prayer Focus: Lord, help my heart see that Your commandments are not there to punish and keep me from the things that I want. Help me see that they are there for my protection and are written in love. Change my heart. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
July 21st – James 2:11-12
11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. (NKJV) For further study, James 2
Prayer Focus: God, thank You that Jesus kept the whole law and paid the price through His death so I could be free to come to You because of Him and not through my works of keeping the law. I praise You and pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
July 22nd – Mark 10:19
19 “You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’” (NKJV) For further study, Mark 10
Prayer Focus: Father, help me let go of the things of this world so that I can really follow You. I ask this in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
July 23rd – Romans 13:9
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (NKJV) For further study, Romans 13
Prayer Focus: God, help me to understand the heart of the law, because it reveals Your heart and expectations of us. Let me not see it as old and dead but alive to help me have a great and fulfilling life. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
July 24th – Deuteronomy 5:17
17 You shall not murder. (NKJV) For further study, Deuteronomy 5
Prayer Focus: Lord, let this nation stop the murder of unborn babies. Open our eyes and help us have a heart to repent. Forgive us. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
