Weekly Devotionals July 4th–10th

Growing in Devotion

It’s important that we spend time each day in God’s Word. Below you will find this week’s daily devotions.

July 4th – Genesis 2:2-3
2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (NKJV) For further study, Genesis 2

Prayer Focus: Father, I see that You set the Sabbath in place in the beginning. You rested to show us that we should rest. Help me realize that I need to rest as You did, and take a Sabbath. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

July 5th – Exodus 16:29-30
29 See! For the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. (NKJV) For further study, Exodus 16

Prayer Focus: God, You taught the people to trust You that they could work only six days and You would provide for them for the seventh. Help me to trust that You will provide and I do not need to work everyday, but instead I can rest in You. I ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

July 6th – Exodus 20:9-11
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. (NKJV) For further study, Exodus 20

Prayer Focus: Thank You Lord, that You understand my needs and designed a time of rest for my physical and spiritual wellbeing. Help me understand Your wisdom and follow it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

 July 7th – Exodus 23:12
12 Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed. (NKJV) For further study, Exodus 23

Prayer Focus: God, I see Your wisdom that everything needs to rest. Lord, lead this nation back to Your way of resting every week. Teach us to change, that You may bless us again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

July 8th – Mark 2:27-28
27 And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." (NKJV) For further study, Mark 2

Prayer Focus: Thank You Lord, that our salvation is not in keeping the “Law” but in Your Son Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. Thank You for sending Him to save us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

July 9th – Exodus 31:15-17
15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed. (NKJV) For further study, Exodus 31

Prayer Focus: Heavenly Father, from these verses I see that You count the Sabbath as important and serious. Teach me to keep it in the way I should now that Your Son has come. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

July 10th – Deuteronomy 5:12-14
12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. (NKJV) For further study, Deuteronomy 5

Prayer Focus: God, help me to observe the Sabbath and keep it Holy as it should be. I know that keeping it or the law is not what saves me. Help me to learn to keep it as an expression of my love for You, for sending Jesus to save me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
